Our Beliefs
Each Vineyard church, whilst unique, has a set of core practices that unite us and help to identify how we do church. This is not a definitive list of our values, nor is it meant to describe individual people; it is instead an explanation of some of the more important aspects of what the Vineyard is about, with an emphasis on the local church.
Whilst each Vineyard church will have a slightly different (localised) emphasis on each of these nine areas; these key points serve as reminders of our movement history, values and the things that steer us as we move ahead.

JesusJesus gives us our aim and focus. He organises us, holds us together. We value Christlikeness. We desire that through the power of the Holy Spirit Jesus’ love, mercy, grace, truth, purity, power, and integrity would shine through all that we are and do. (Colossians 1:18)

BibleWe believe that the Holy Spirit inspired the human authors of the Bible so that it is without error in the original manuscripts. We want to hear the Word of God taught in a practical, inspiring way. We aim to hear and obey God’s Word to us. We want to be ‘doers of the Word’ who are being transformed into the likeness of Christ.
Kingdom of GodWe believe that through the cross Jesus overcame evil and established his reign, this is how God became King. The Kingdom of God is the dynamic reign or rule of God. We live in the tension between the now and the not yet of the Kingdom. Despite living in an imperfect world we can experience something of Jesus’ rule and reign here on earth, today.
Holy SpiritWe believe that the Holy Spirit, God's Divine Presence fills us and empowers us to continue the work of the Kingdom. We believe that the Holy Spirit is alive and well today, bringing healing and spiritual gifts for the purpose of God's mission. We want to be 'people of the presence', led by the Holy Spirit to transform lives.
WorshipWe desire to worship God with our whole being. We want Jesus to be at the centre as our Lord and Saviour. We want to see Spirit-enabled worship in a style that is intimate, dynamic, culture current and life changing. Worship is more than just singing songs; Worship should be seen in our daily lives. (Romans 12:1-2)
CompassionAs we worship, "Love God", we experience compassion, "Love for others". We express God's heart of mercy and His demand for justice to a broken world. God is sending His church to bring compassion to those in pain, those who are suffering and those who are oppressed.
ChurchChurch is a gathering of people with a purpose. We value the 'Whole" church. Vineyard is just one flavour of church. We seek to be on good terms with every part of the church of Jesus.
Church PlantingWe believe that planting new churches is the best way to transform communities. We are committed to the practice of planting new Vineyard churches that will share Vineyard vision and values, priorities and practices.
TrainingWe believe that all followers of Jesus should be equipped to “do the works of Christ.” We are committed to the “show and tell” model of “on the job” training. We aim to provide training for all aspects of responsible Christian life and ministry.

Vineyard Churches UK & Ireland are currently intentionally focussed upon five emphases inside of our broader vision. For details on these visit here.
As part of the worldwide Church we affirm the Apostles Creed (below) and The Nicene Creed (to the right) as professions of what we believe. A creed is a short statement of belief that summarises what the Bible teaches.
The Apostles Creed
We believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. |
