How to read the Bible
At Coventry Vineyard we are committed to equipping people to live lives as followers of Jesus. One essential way this happens is as we explore the bible and discover that God is speaking to us and that we have a choice to obey or not. Discipleship is all about forming habits that help us to become more like Jesus. The habit of reading the Bible is not a barometer of spirituality. The true barometer is whether we are loving God and people more. The bible equips us to become more like Jesus.

"As we read the bible, we find ourselves in a new world. This is God’s country. God space. We soon discover that we are invited into conversation with God. We are encouraged to respond. We are included. This book reveals a God who invites us into conversation with him. More than that, invites us into relationship with him. Invites us to change. Invites us to grow." -Eugene Peterson

Every Sunday morning our talks, which last about 30 mins, are deeply rooted in the Bible. Every speaker takes seriously the responsibility to teach the 'word of God' to our community of faith. We seek to apply what we read in the bible to our everyday life. Our Life Groups are where we are further equipped as followers of Jesus. This happens in more informal teaching, through discussion and interaction (in circles not in rows), always seeking to put what we learn into practice.
"Our goal is to be disciples who make disciples"
How does it work? The leader of the group is there to host and guide a conversation rather than "teach a bible study". The goal is to equip and empower people to hear the Holy Spirit speaking to them as they explore the pages of scripture. The group is formed around five sections...
1. THANKFUL
What are you thankful for this week?
2. ACCOUNTABILITY
How have you shared with someone else, what you learned last week?
How did your "I wills..." go? (See next sections) 3. BIBLE DISCOVERY
4. SHARE
With whom will you share what you learned this week?
5. HELP
What is one challenge you are facing this week?
Is there some way our group can help? |
Discipling you to disciple others
Journey groups are an effective tool for making disciples. Instead of focusing on learning and talking about the Bible, this simple format focuses on listening to and immediately obeying the Bible as well as sharing it with others. The change is subtle but powerful and brings wonderful results. READ - OBEY - SHARE
